What is a heat number? 

A heat code, also known as a heat number, is an alphanumeric code that provides the traceability of a part to a material test report (MTR).

With this code you will be able to review the material’s pedigree (chemical and physical properties and their conformance to applicable specifications). A heat code is typically assigned to a manufacturing batch by the manufacturer.
